Berks County’s GAM Secures $26.4M to Boost Defense-Critical Mineral Production

Global Advanced Metals

Global Advanced Metals (GAM) has partnered with the U.S. Department of Defense to restart niobium oxide production, essential for high-purity superalloys used in defense technologies like aircraft and rocket systems.

The $26.4 million DOD award will accelerate the first U.S. niobium oxide production in 30 years. This collaboration, leveraging GAM’s Pennsylvania facility, strengthens the aerospace and defense industrial base by reducing supply chain vulnerabilities. Local leaders like Senator Bob Casey and Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan praised the initiative for boosting national security and job creation in Berks County.

Boyertown Trail Development to Connect

with Schuylkill River Trail

Boyertown is currently developing a trail that will eventually connect to the Schuylkill River Trail, enhancing outdoor recreation and community access.

Last week, Main Street Manager, Ellen, attended the Eastern PA Greenways & Trails Summit in Sayre, PA to gain insights on trails and their economic impact. The summit highlighted the importance of outdoor spaces for local economies, and attendees were encouraged to visit the scenic Endless Mountains Heritage Region, known for its natural beauty.

Blood Drive at Boyertown Community Library

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will host a blood drive at Boyertown Community Library on the first Wednesday of every month. The event will take place on the library’s lower level.
