π Boo-yertown to Host Month-Long Halloween Celebrations
This October, Boyertown will transform into "Boo-yertown," becoming a Halloween hotspot for visitors seeking spooky fun. Known for its historic Halloween celebrations, including one of the nationβs oldest Halloween parades, the town will feature a variety of themed events throughout the month.
The festivities kick off with the Monster Meet and Greet on October 11, where thrill-seekers can interact with iconic horror movie characters at downtown businesses. For those looking for a more relaxed experience, the Monster Mash Wine Walk on October 25 offers music, a costume contest, and wine tasting.
Boo-yertown will also host a wide range of activities, including ghost storytelling by Charlie Adams, a fall festival, Dungeons & Dragons sessions, a haunted house fundraiser, and even a ghost-hunting tour aboard the Colebrookdale Railroad. The townβs beloved Halloween parade will take place on October 19, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1912.
Visitors can enjoy a full calendar of frightful fun, including family-friendly events like Trunk or Treat, spooky movie nights, ghost walks, and more. The month promises something for everyone, from eerie encounters to fall festivals.

Unearthing History: The Secret Time
Capsules of Boyertown High
Boyertown Area Senior High School holds a treasure trove of history within its walls, quite literally. According to Mr. Trasy, a telecommunications teacher and unofficial school historian, the institution houses three time capsules, each offering a unique glimpse into the past.
The most recent capsule, sealed in 2017, commemorates a new building addition. It contains a wealth of information, including school event programs, construction photos, and a comprehensive list of graduates spanning over a century, from 1893 to 2017.
A 1994 time capsule, discovered during renovations, has had an interesting journey. Initially opened at a class reunion in 2019, its contents were displayed before being resealed with additional items from the reunion. The capsule now resides in a specially built monument near the school's East entrance.
Perhaps most intriguing is the oldest time capsule, dating back to 1934. Hidden behind a date stone in the old building, its existence was confirmed through historical research. According to a 1935 newspaper article, this capsule contains coins, a list of students and staff, and a Bible signed by school officials.
Mr. Trasy plans to open this oldest capsule in 2034, marking its centennial. This event promises to be a fascinating connection between past and present, bridging a 100-year gap in the school's rich history.
These time capsules serve as tangible links to Boyertown High School's past, preserving moments in time for future generations to discover and appreciate.
π³ Boyertown Students Attend Youth Empowerment Event at Althouse Arboretum
A group of 35 students from Boyertown Area Senior High (BASH) recently took part in the Youth Empowerment Day hosted at the Althouse Arboretum. This event focused on the importance of volunteering and developing leadership skills, offering students a chance to connect with local nonprofits and gain hands-on experience through various service projects.
Over 80 students from five different regional schools participated in the dayβs activities. The Althouse Arboretum provided complimentary transportation and lunch for all attendees, making the day both educational and enjoyable. Students left the event with a deeper understanding of voluntarism and how they can make a positive impact in their community.
PennDOT Launches 2025 Innovations Challenge to Promote Seat Belt Safety
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the launch of its eighth annual Innovations Challenge, inviting high school students across the state to participate. The competition encourages students in grades 9-12 to use their creativity, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills to address real-world transportation issues. This year, the focus is on improving seat belt safety, with participants tasked to develop cost-effective solutions that can help PennDOT increase awareness and change driver and passenger behavior, ultimately improving roadway safety.
Each year, over 350 unrestrained fatalities occur on Pennsylvania roads. Although PennDOT promotes a wide range of safety initiatives, seat belt use remains a critical issue. The Innovations Challenge provides an opportunity for students to propose fresh, innovative approaches to raise awareness and encourage seat belt use among drivers.
Regional winners of the challenge will present their ideas to PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll and a panel of judges, with the statewide winning team receiving a total of $6,000 in awards sponsored by several organizations. The submission deadline for entries is January 31, 2025. More information about the challenge can be found on PennDOT's official website.
